rock and roll all night and party every october
September 6th, 2006so the kiss ensemble is back. we’ll be playing october 29th
i said in class today that I’d post a few songs, they’re here…
wow, real wordy. I gotta post again soon. it’s been a month again.
get high on a new (old) thing
August 10th, 2006some (not very) new music. I went to reckless and lauries (months ago and saved this draft), and picked up a huge stack of stuff… here’s my 2 favorites
Curumin - Achados E Perdidos: this wasn’t on my list, but the review that reckless put on the cover intrigued me. they compared it to early beck mixed with a bit of latin soul… simply amazing. he’s coming to hothouse next month. got to go.
catfish haven - please come back: a local band, another great review from laurie’s staff. the review made it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread. I wouldn’t go that far. acoustic pop songs that don’t sound like acoustic pop songs. reminiscent of, but not too much like springsteen, dylan, etc. 4 months later, I just put it down because I played it too much. truly awesome record, can’t wait to hear more from them.
black diamond
August 8th, 2006
well, the ps-10 is gone. but whoah! who woulda thunk it. I sure am gonna get me a nice amp, and a bass for shana and a fridge for the basement and and and and and!!!! WOOO HOOO!
I’ll miss her, but i’ll always have my memories…
I’ll take swords for 400 alex…
July 25th, 2006Oh. My. God.
I saw these guys at subterranean last night. Davie came into the city on a Monday night to see them, so I knew they’d be good! He heard them on pandora after typing in black sabbath.
It’s amazing how great I felt after being barraged with drop-c tuned guitars, thundering bass, and lots and lots of crashing cymbals - banging my head like I was 15 again. Luckily, I was able to keep myself from throwing the devil horns (those are strictly ironic these days)
paprikash
July 25th, 2006i was inspired by the food nerd cooking with only what was on hand in the house for a month… I’m not that ambitious, but I’ve vowed to cook 1 thing per week using something that’s been around the house for a while.
sunday’s dish was chicken paprikash, using the spaetzels that I’ve had sitting around for a while… I’m using the recipe from paprikash.com.
I modified it a bit and used chicken legs, and probably not enough becuase there was soooo much sauce, and not much chicken. plus the boxed spaetzels were a little on the tiny side… overall, it was a 6, but I’ll give paprikash another chance. I don’t know that I’ve every had it, so don’t have anything to compare it to…
this week I’m making dulac dirty rice using the zatarain’s dirty rice mix we have. and some chicken kabobs with an orzo pilaf using the orzo that’s been sitting around for along time… full report soon.
food stuff
July 20th, 2006a shit factory needs raw materials, and shana and i really want to cook more - so this will be the first of hopefully many food posts…
todays concerns microwave food. in an effort to eat out less, I bought some microwave food from trader joes this week. I haven’t eaten microwave food more than once every couple months since my sound warehouse days when i ate stouffer’s lasagna just about every day…
today, i had the “expensive chicken burrito” which was ok, just slightly too tomato-y… good enough to eat the other one in the package, but I’ll probably try another flavor.
yesterday it was the red curry shrimp rice bowl, also from trader joe’s - all I can say about that was that it was bland bland bland…
buffalo killers
July 20th, 2006i went to the empty bottle to check out the buffalo killers yesterday. it’s the new band from 3 members of thee shams. i gotta say, i was impressed. i guess they’re going for a more psychedelic feel, as evidenced by the oil light projected behind them. more slower songs, but still very bluesy, and very good. some cool slide work on a couple of songs… i’ll miss a lot of shams songs, but since the 2 main songwriters from thee shams are in buffalo killers, maybe they’ll pull out some of those tunes once they’ve established themselves.
the monkey monk
July 10th, 2006ok, so I’m a dork. I sometimes sing songs replacing a word with our dogs name ( oh monkey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind hey monkey). shana says i should post them, since i don’t post anything else to my lame blog, so here’s one I came up with last night, my most ambitious rewrite yet…
The Monkey-Monk (sung to the tune of the humpty hump by digital underground who rocked at summerfest last thursday)
All right!
Stop whatcha doin’
’cause I’m about to chew on
the tongue and the laces of your new shoes.
I look sunny
and I’ll eat thru all your money see
so yo shawn I hope you’re ready for me.
Now gather round
I’m the new dog in town
and my crate’s laid down in the Underground.
I eat up all the dog treats that ya got on ya shelf
so just let me introduce myself
My name is Monkey, pronounced with a Onkey.
Shawn’s guests, oh how I like to jump thee.
And all the studs over at ko-ven–don’t you dare try to hump me.
I’m jumpin’ tall, y’all,
and just like Humpty Dumpty
jason’s fallin in the back-yard when I jump he.
My licks are slime,
and at times I smell real funky,
I’m spunky. I make my master’s husband grumpy.
i decided here that I’d taken it too far, but here’s the chorus for good measure…
{Chorus:}
The Monkey Dance is your chance to do the monk
Do the Monkey Monk, come on and do the Monkey Monk
Do the Monkey Monk, just watch me do the Monkey Monk
Do ya know what I’m doin’, doin’ the Monkey Monk
Do the Monkey Monk, do the Monkey Monk
stay tuned for more!
yay! another month
May 3rd, 2006i’m the worst blogger ever. just got back from vegas. hooray for scorpions and bacon martinis!
